"Order by" clause

I run the script below in sql2005 and am receiving the error msg 209. Do I
need a prefix to order by either STATE, TAXAMNT, or SUBTOTAL because I want
them displyed in front.
Thank you.
Charlie
select STATE, TAXAMNT, SUBTOTAL, *
from sop30200
where state in('NJ','NY','WA','CO','CA','ME','OK','VA','PA','T N')
AND SOPTYPE IN (3,4)
AND DOCDATE between '2007-02-01 00:00:00.000' and '2007-02-28 00:00:00.000'
--AND TAXEXMT1 = ' '
AND SUBTOTAL <> 0
--AND SOPNUMBE LIKE 'NCINV%'
AND VOIDSTTS = 0
AND SOPNUMBE NOT IN
(SELECT INVNO
FROM VERTEX..REGPRERETURNSTBL
WHERE COMPCD = 'ABS'
and invno between '20070201' and '20070228')
--AND SHIPTOGEOCODE LIKE '31%')
ORDER BY STATE DESC
Msg 209, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Ambiguous column name 'STATE'.
While there is no actual ambiguity, the parser is not so sure.
Your select list contains the STATE column twice: once
explicitly as the first column and once again in the *. The
parser does not know whether you want to sort on the
source column sop30200.STATE or on the output column
STATE. They are the same in this query, but there are
queries where they could be different because some
output expression or column is aliased as STATE. The
parser does not try to figure out the meaning of the query.
There are two solutions. One is to specify
ORDER BY sop30200.STATE
and the other is to list all the columns you want in the output
separately and one each, not using the * notation. The second
solution is the better one, at least in production, because neither
* nor duplicate columns in the output are typically a good idea.
But if this is just a quick ad hoc query, the first solution is fine.

"Multiple IP address in one SQL server" and "authentication problem with AD"

Never use a multihomed server as a DC. So you need to either remove AD off
of this machine or remove one of the NIC's.
The link below has some info on this and I couldn't find the exact article
but I can guarantee you are going to have constant problems with this setup.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I don't specifically see what the problem
is, but does this sql server allow SQL Server and AD authentication? If so
have you tried both methods? What about the Event Log what is the error you
are receiving?

Are you using SQL Authentication?

If you can connect to host.pub.dom.com as a SQL User it is not the
resolution of the machine that has cause the problem.
If you can connect to host.dom.com as a Windows User host.dom.com\user it is
not the permissions for host.dom.com\user that is the issue.
If you can connect to host.pub.dom.com as a Windows User
host.pub.dom.com\user it is not the permissions for host.dom.com\user that is
the issue.
If you can connect to host.pub.dom.com as a Windows User host.dom.com\user I
suspect that it is something like the trust relationship between the two
domains that is the issue.

your domain. The reason the cname works is you have it pointing to the
domain side.
I think you could get this to work if you loaded Routing and Remote Access,
but this is skewed.

"max text repl size" safety

I just increased the max size of text replication to 524288 bytes with below
Sql statements. The system allows me to do that but I'm wondering if there
is any issue/drawback that I should know about pumping the max size up by so
much. Thank you in advance for your advice.
EXEC sp_configure 'max text repl size', '524288'
go
RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE
goBasically it means that SQL can replicate data where a row contains more
than 524288 bytes. This will cause performance degradation on your system as
rows this size are going through.

If the system is moving large files (2- 10 MB) what kind of impact will it
have? What impact will it have on both servers?
Thanks

"Login failed for user" error

hi ppl,
I'm having trouble connecting to my database using ASP.NET
I have been getting the error below whenever i try open the connection using connection.open using vb.net

I have this error in when using plain text editor as and even using
the visual studio.nets data tools (sqlconnection, sqldataadapter tool.)
The strange thing is that i can easily preview the data in any table in northwind db using the connections i've created in the solution explorer using visual studio.net.

This is the connection string created by visual studio.net (i also tried to use this connectionstring manually in code)
"initial catalog=Northwind;integrated security=SSPI;persist security info=False;workstation id=COMPI;packet size=4096"

Here is the error (same error for plain text and vs.net):

Login failed for user 'COMPI\ASPNET'
...
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'COMPI\ASPNET'.
...
[SqlException: Login failed for user 'COMPI\ASPNET'.]
System.Data.SqlClient.ConnectionPool.GetConnection (Boolean& isInTransaction)
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionPoolManager.Get PooledConnection(SqlConnectionString options, Boolean& isInTransaction)
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.Open()
BegCh12.WebForm1.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) in C:\BegASPNet\BegCh12\WebForm1.aspx.vb:153
System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e)
System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive()
System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain()...

can someone help pls
Im using sql server 7 sp3, windows xp pro.I may have miss read this so let me restate your problem.

You have an application thaat can view and access data in the NorthWind DB but not the DB your app is written for. If that is true then it sounds like your userid "ASPNET" needs to be granted access to the db in question as well as execute or Select/Delete/Update permissions of all needed objects.|||How do i do what ur saying, is it from SQL server or using Windows XP.
I have just installed sql server and havent done any changes to permission or account (not sure how)?|||Use Enterprise Manager

Open your server, expand Security and then click on Users. right click on your UserID and select properties. Under the Database Access tab click on the Permit check box next to your database. Under the Permit in Database Role, you will want to select public, and probably db_datareader/datawrite OR you can open things up a bit and select db_owner, but I wouldn't use it for very long.

Books Online covers this very well.

"Can Grow" field in Header

Hi

There are two fileds in the header. They are kept one below another. For both "Can Grow" option is checked. While printing the lower field is not moving downward as the upper one is growing. So both the fields are merged and printing on the same line.

How can I get rid of this?

Please Help.

Thanks in Advance. This is a bug in crystal reports|||You need to give space between them
