"upload only" tables in merge subscription?

Is it possible to upload data in a single table from all subscribers to the
publisher in a merge subscription? All subscribers and the publisher are
running SS2005 (Express edition for subscribers). I'm familiar with the
download only option from publisher to subscribers, but need to do just the
opposite. If merge replication can't do this, how about transactional
replication, using a publication with just this one table? Creative
suggestions welcome.
TIA,
Eric Hall
Paul -
Thanks for the pointer. Since I only want to perform the "upload only" on 2
articles, it looks like I have to create a seperate publication for just
those tables. Odd that the upload only option was left out of the
sp_addmergearticle @.subscriber_upload_options parameter options. Download
only is there!
Thanks,
Eric

|||Quite understnad - at first I thought it was a replacement for the
commandline parameter but then I realised there is some overlap but they
aren't the same thing. The "@.subscriber_upload_options" is pretty nice
addition though - it vastly reduces the amount of metadata involved, as the
triggers simply don't record the changes. I guess that's why it couldn't
replace the upload only option as this sin't really controlled in the
triggers.

"On demand" push subscription

Hi everyone,

Here is my problem: I need to implement an "on demand" push subscription. I am currently using a transactional replication with subscription agents running continiously. The connection between the publisher and the subscribers is pretty flaky, plus having the agents run continiously utilizes an ennormous amount of network bandwidth. At the same time the data need to be pushed to the subscribers as soon as they get into the publisher, so scheduling would not work either.

The only choice I have is to implement a solution where the distribution agents would be generally disconnected (i.e. disabled) from the subscribers, and would be enabled only when a data change is processd by the publisher.

Where do I start? Should I use triggers, DTS, or anything else? If yes, how? I am open to any suggestions.

Thank you very, very, very much! For the consistency between database why don't you use LOG SHIPPING which works in similar fashion of replication.|||Thank you for your input, Satya! I've investigated log shipping as a possible alternative, but found that it requires to be scheduled at a cerain time. I need a solution that allows an immediate update of the records.

Thank you, any additional ideas are greatly appreciated!

What I mean is if you log shipping and enable Log transfer every 15 minutes between Primary and secondary server which will have easy effect of backup of live database. LS proved and saved a lot of time of mine than replication.

If you're insist to use immediate updations then better to opt for replication and make sure to suffice all the terms before using.

Refer books online for more information on REPLICATION topic.|||To Satya:

Woohoo! I resolved the problem! I have implemented the "on demand" programmatically using C#. The user decides when to actually replicate by simply pressing a button. The command initializes, runs, and terminates all of the necessary distribution agents. This way the agents are deactivated most of the time, and are activated only when the user actually puts in a batch of records and gives a command to replicate. Since the records are put in only once or twice daily, but need to be available everywhere immediately, it is a perfect solution for us. Of course, if the data were put in more often, it would make more sense to leave the agents run continuously or to use a frequently scheduled log shipping.

P.S. I used a Microsoft Distribution Control 8.0 (SQLDISTXLib)

"marking" the processed elements in data-driven subscription

I would like to use e-mail delivery for the following scenario: new orders
arrive in a table and i
would like to send confirmation messages which contain the content of the
order. The RS has an "every
5 minutes" schedule and should send e-mail just about the new orders to the
customers.
How could I differentiate the new elements from the old ones?
- or -
How can I "mark" the orders, when the confirmation report was created that
they were processed?
Thanks in advance,

We do something similar.
We have an additional field in our subscription Queue which has a Processed
Flag field (just a BIT). We update this field whenever the entry has been
processed via the data driven subscription's query. If you don't want to
add a field to this table, you could create an additional table recording a
log of processed Orders.

to update the "flag" field is to use a stored procedure. Within the sproc
you can return the records affected by the email notice and revisit each row
to update the flag value. =)

and wasn't sure of Kolos's particular scenario.

"include link" from database always errors

I have a data driven subscription. I would like to include a link, however,
I want to include the link from the database. So i select the "Get the value
from the database" button under "Include Link". Then i select a field. No
matter what field i select, or what value the field has in it, the
subscription errors out with:
"The value _____ is not valid for setting 'include link' "
Is this another bug? Or are there limitations here that i'm not aware of?
TIA,
BrianI've had this same problem too. Is this a known bug?
Another thing I've noticed about the "include link" setting:
If it is set to "No Value" - the next time the subscription is editted, it
will have reverted back to "Specify a static value"
Also (and I know this has been said before), it would be nice if the Comment
section did not encode HTML tags brackets etc (eg, < is replaced by <). It
is a nuisance having to cut and paste every time. Hopefully this will be
fixed in SP2!

"Data-Driven Subscription" Not Showing

Hi,
Just a follow-up on my earlier email.
I have Reporting Services 2000 installed on Small Business Server for
Windows 2003.
I am logged on as admistrator and all permissions for Content Manager ans
System Admistrator are in place
When I Go To Subscriptions in Report Manager, "New Subscription" option only
shows.
I know that there should be a "New Data-Driven Subscription" option showing
right next to this.
But it just does not show. Does nayone know why this is not the case.
Does this appear only with SQL Reporting Services 2000 Service Pack 1 only?
Or is some option that needs to be ticked off somehwere for this to show.
Does anyone know why this option just will now show?
Thanks
SanjeevWhen I looked into the same problem, I was told that Data Driven
Subscriptions are only available with the Enterprise Edition of SQL Server.

Did you ever try using Enterprise Edition to see if that solved the problem
