"Version 2.0 Is Not A Compatible Version"

When using VS2003 and Reporting Services 2005, I am met with the following
compilation error after creating a dataset then trying to design it:
"Version 2.0 Is Not A Compatible Version"
I cant drag any tools to the design surface, or add any fields. I have both
SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services as well as 2005.
Anyone have a hint on how I can remedy this?

"The Lab Is Not Available" message from ELearning Offline Player

I'm working on Course 2944: Updating Your Reporting Skills to Microsoft® SQL
Serverâ?¢ 2005 Reporting Services
When I attempt to do the lab "Designing a Report", I get this message. Any
idea WHY it's not available or what I can do to fix the problem and get to

"Report Manager Virtual Directory" link greyed out in config. tool

I've just installed SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services on our development
servers and the "Report Manager Virtual Directory" link is disabled in the
configuration tool. Does anyone know why it is disabled, and how do I enable
it?
Also, the Web Service Identity link displays the following error message
when I click on it:
"There was an error while switching panels. The most likely cause is an
error retrieving WMI properties. The exception details are:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
I've verified that the "Windows Management Instrumentation" service is
running.
Background/current configuration:
- OS: Windows Server 2003 (Enterprise) SP1
- Web server separate from database server
- Reporting Svcs 2000 installed and working correctly
- Side-by-side installation of Reporting Svcs 2005 with 2000.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This seems to have something to do with the web.config file.

Please check if the connections strings have been put under the configuration\connectionStrings section. Here is a typical sample

am an admin on the AS box. I am using this tutorial:

I set up the data source, then I hit "generate model". I type in my model
name, hit "OK", and get the "Logon failed (rsLogonFailed)" message. I am
using "credentials supplied by the user running the report" dialog box with
the "Use as Windows..." checkbox checked. For good measure I have even added
myself to a cube Role with admin privelages. Alos, I can in fact browse and
manipulate the cube.
Any ideas?

I think the issue here is not the users priviliges in SSAS , rather
the priviliges in SSRS. Try using report manager to configure
permissions for the user in question .

"HTTP status 400: Bad Request" - Reporting Services 2005

Has anyone ran into this error yet while testing Report Manager?
"The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request."
I can deploy and access reports directly, but I receive the above error when
hitting the http://localhost/Reports URL (i.e. ReportManager)
Also, I'm seeing DCOM errors in the NT event log whenever this happens. A
search in the registry find CLSID references to network components (Network
Connection Manager Class, Network Connection Manager Connection Enumerator
Class, LAN Connection Manager Class, etc). Any ideas? Is there a security
configuration that I'm missing?

"File not in a recognizeable format" when rendering to excel

I am using a WinXP SP2 machine with SQL2000 SP4, and using Reporting
Services SP2 when I get "File not in a recognizeable format" when
rendering to excel. Same goes for trying to render to PDF.
The weird thing is that on a virtual I have with Reporting Services
RTM, the excel opens fine...so I don't know what is going on.
The way I am generating the report is by manually creating a
request/response, adding on the POST vars, and then writing the output
to the browser (changing the content-type to excel, pdf, etc). As I
said, with the RTM version, the excel generates fine, but with SP2 it
doesnt.
Here are the parameters that I am adding onto the URL when I make the
request, along with my custom params.

I was taking the stream reader and passing the results back to the
output stream and writing it out just using Response.Write. This
worked fine for Reporting Svcs RTM, but NOT for SP2.
After going through various postings, I gather a few ways that others
did similar web request/response calls and found that if I just passed
the raw response stream and wrote it out with
Response.outputstream.write that it worked for BOTH RTM and SP2..

Unable to install Reporting Services. Found a couple of users experiencing
the same problem, but no solution :( Any ideas?
/ChrisFirst, check the error log in Event Viewer and see if you can find any
EventID number for your error. That can pinpoint what the error really is.
If it's error 25619, then check if the DTC service is running? Go check in
services.msc for "Distributed Transaction Coordinator".
Even if it says "started", it might not be. I've had some troubles with
installing RS, and the DTC was the culprit.

"Data-Driven Subscription" Not Showing

Hi,
Just a follow-up on my earlier email.
I have Reporting Services 2000 installed on Small Business Server for
Windows 2003.
I am logged on as admistrator and all permissions for Content Manager ans
System Admistrator are in place
When I Go To Subscriptions in Report Manager, "New Subscription" option only
shows.
I know that there should be a "New Data-Driven Subscription" option showing
right next to this.
But it just does not show. Does nayone know why this is not the case.
Does this appear only with SQL Reporting Services 2000 Service Pack 1 only?
Or is some option that needs to be ticked off somehwere for this to show.
Does anyone know why this option just will now show?

Subscriptions are only available with the Enterprise Edition of SQL Server.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on this error I am seeing on the
Reporting Services server. The server has been working fine for several
months and now we get these errors.
When I go to the Report Manager
http://servername/Reports/pages/folder.aspx
I get the following error: "Response is not well-formed XML"
When I goto the Report Server
http://servername/ReportServer
I get the following error: "The report server cannot decrypt the symmetric
key used to access sensitive or encrypted data in a report server database.
You must either restore a backup key or delete all encrypted content."
I have done some searching and I have found that it is possible that my
ASPNet account has had its password changed which could cause the above
errors. But I am not sure if this would be the issue.
Any thoughts out there?

RobI think you are asking on how to determine if the ASPNet password has been
changed. Depends on what is being audited on the box, but how about looking
in the Security evnet log?

>|||The same thing just began happening to me as well. I've been attempting to install a custom rendering extension I've been writing - I thought it was that but when I undo all the config changes I'm still getting the same message.
I don't have an answer yet but if you've managed to sort yours out I'd be interested in hearing how.
If not, then I'll post back when I've fixed it.

"...remote name could not be resolved" when using custom Web App

Hi all,
I'm getting a headache trying to figure out what is going on here. I've set
up Reporting Services on 1 dev machine and 2 servers and using a Web
Application that I am developing to access Reporting Services to generate a
report for me. Everything works fine on both my development machine and one
of the servers, but the other server keeps on producing this error:
"The underlying connection was closed: The remote name could not be resolved."
As far as I can remember, every instance of RS was installed identically.
Also, I can use the Report Manager from the server and from networked
computers to generate reports with no issues. Its only upon my Web Apps
access to the RS that I get this error. Is this similar to the SSL issues a
lot of people have been discussing? I'm still quite a newbie when it comes to
sql server and iis, so if this has been answered elsewhere already, I'd
appreciate a link :)
AndreAfter a bit of debugging I found that the problem was actually just that a
static web refference to the report server was being used, and that was
pointing at the other server still.
All works fine now.

Reporting Services Error !

I have installed SQL Server Reporting Services and I recieve the following error when I attempt to call the reportserver from the URL.

"Server Application Unavailable
The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the 'Refresh' button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur. "

In the event log, the following error is recorded..."

"aspnet_wp.exe could not be started. The error code for the failure is 80004005. This error can be caused when the worker process account has insufficient rights to read the .NET Framework files. Please ensure that the .NET Framework is correctly installed and that the ACLs on the installation directory allow access to the configured account. "

I have ran "aspnet_regiis -i" after installing reporting services...
I have validated that ASPNET has the correct permissions...
I have validated that ASPNET user account has not been lockedout...
I have restarted the Report Server service...
I have restarted the IIS service...
I even have restarted the server...

Does anyone have any other ideas that may help! Thank you in advance.Try this url it is permissions related. Hope this helps.

I did check my machine.config file and the <processModel> contains:

userName="machine"
password="AutoGenerate"

Why wouldn't this work for a non-domain controller server?|||Also, by the way, I have installed the .Net 1.1 hot fix|||I am sorry I did not ask you if you installed the Reporting Services and SQL Server with Service accounts because when SQL Server is installed in a Networked box is it good practice to use Service accounts so you will not get all the permissions related errors. Also, when I attempt to run rsactivate, I recieve the following error:
Failure parsing the config file.
Invalid URI: The host name could not be parsed.

The config file that it is referring to is the rsreportserver.config.|||Reporting Service applications are run through IIS so the username should be the Asp.net worker process account which is different from the service account used to install Reproting Service. You may also need to give Asp.net account full permissions to the Reporting application root folder. Hope this helps.
