Would someone be able to tell me if this is a bug or not. When I have two
parameters (both text boxes) and change the first one and click on the "View
Report" button to refresh the data with the new parameter values it blanks
the report out and I do not see "processing report" like I normally do. On
the second click it processes the report.
When I change a parameter in the second text box and click "View Report", it
processes the first click.
Seems like a bug of sorts. Anyone encounter this before? I'm more than
happy to provide the RDL.

value of that query is dependent on the value of parameter 1 (hierarchical
parameters).
What happens is that when you choose a value for P1, we try to go back and
get values for P2. Now before we get those values the user clicks view
report. Since you've requested a to view a report with only one parameter
specified, we send back a page asking for the second parameter value.
However due to browser refresh, it doesn't look like anything happened. Now
you provide a value for parameter 2, you get the report rendered.
You can make this stop happening by providing a default value for parameter
2.

"Using other editions of SQL Server for report data sources and/or the report server datab
Hi
My project is in .NET 2003 i.e. framework 1.1 and database in SQLServer 2000. But the reports have been developed using SQLServer 2005 Reporting Services. Now when I am trying to deploy them through deployment project of .NET its giving me following error:
"Using other editions of SQL Server for report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.
Now I am really confused with this. Can any one please guide me regarding this ASAP.

You will need to use the SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services or upgrade to SQL Server 2005. SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 requires SQL 2005 (Express Edition does not count either)|||

|||On my machine I was having both SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005. I was using project server database and wss database of SQL Server 2000 and Reporting Services and its database of 2005. Accordingly I was getting following error while running reportserver of reporting services 2005:
"Using other editions of SQL Server for report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services
So I uninstalled SQL Server 2000 from my machine. I started using project server database and wss database of SQL Server 2000 from some other machine. For Reporting Services and its database of 2005 it used it from my machine.. So every thing worked fine and its not giving any error.
But my actually requirement is using project server database and wss database of SQL Server 2000 and Reporting Services and its database of 2005 for which I get above error.
So please help me out with this ASAP. Is there any work around for this?

"User Cancelled" Error while viewing Crystal report
Hi,
I have a Crystal Reports v10 Report that has been working fine
for the past X years. It is invoked by a VB6 app using the
Report Viewer. For some reason, sometimes when the report is
executed, it displays the message "User Cancelled" immediately
after the viewer window is opened, even though the user did not
cancel the report. None of the code has changed, neither has the
report.
Does anyone have any clue as to why this message should appear?

AnandhSometimes I see this message when there is an issue with the print spooler on the computer where the report is being generated. Try going to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and then restarting the Print Spooler service. After doing this, reboot the computer.
If this doesn't work, then it isn't the print spooler causing the problem.

then I type the ServerName, UserID and Password.
System hangs for a while, then I get this error :
"Unable To Connect to Sql server MyServer"
BUT IF I create system DSN (ODBC) then create the report, it works.
Why can't I create report Natively on MSDE ??

This is a base instance. FYI, this is a test computer, sp many 'install & uninstall' here, previously there is SQL Server personal edition there, but I already uninstalled it.
After that I install 'Client Connectivity only', and there is No way I can uninstall it. Then I install MSDE SP3a. and I get the error.
Does this give us any clue ?

We are software developer company, we want to reach as wide market as possible, we want to keep on supporting windows 98.
The docs said Windows 98 is supported. Is there any known issue of MSDE 2000 on WIn 98 ?

"Too many requests being handled for user" error while accessing Report Manager
Hi,
When I try to access Report Manager(http://<reportserver>/Reports) I'm
getting the following error message:
"There are currently too many requests being handled for user:
[DOMAIN]\[USER]. Please wait until the current requests have finished
processing before issuing any more."
However there are no problems when I try to access the Report
Server(http://<reportserver>/ReportServer).
Has anyone encountered a similar situation before?

generated the following error when executing a report (written in ASP).
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e31'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired
I then created a SQL dump of this database and exported the tables to Access
MDB file.
Using another test server, I re-created the entire database using the SQL
dump file and imported the data using Access MDB file. Next, I copied the
entire ASP source tree over to this test server.
Lo and behold, when I ran the same report program, it ran successfully!
Could someone tell me why the legacy project running on the production
server caused this timeout error, while the exact same program running on a
test server runs without problem?
Could it be an indexing issue?

I have a report that will not run in "preview" mode in VS 2005. Whereas the
deployed report runs correctly and shows results in about 15 seconds, the
same report (downloaded from the report server) tries to run in preview for
about 60 seconds and then displays "The given key was not present in the
dictionary".
Each of the 4 datasets (3 used for runtime parameter selections and one for
the report's data) run fine.
I've tried some of the other reports developed in SSRS and don't seem to
have this problem elsewhere. (I've not tried all my reports yet though.)
I've recently downloaded and installed .NET 3.0 and the variouls
add-ons/extensions for WCF, WPF and WWF and wonder if this is the root of the
problem.
I've seen some postings related to AJAX and this message but have not yet
downloaded AJAX.

project, I couldn't deploy and got the error message : "The connection could

When you open the browser and navigate to https://myserver/reportserver do
you get a https certificate prompt (yes/no/install cert?). This was the issue
for me... click on Install Certficate and try deploying again.

"sp_cursor" error while printing web report using Reporting Servic

We're using MS SQL 2000 with MS Server 2003. It's a Xeon ( single processor)
based Server with 1GB RAM.
We also use 'Reporting Services' to generate web reports.
The problem is , our application will have problem writing ( ie. INSERT
INTO) to the transaction database if the web reporting is printing data from
the same transaction table.
Following errors were captured in our application.
_sp_cursor:_The_cursor_identifier_value_provided_(xxxxxxx)_is_not_valid
where xxxxxx cpuld be some kind of hex codes , for example 'abcdf08'
,'abcdf03' etc.
Could the MS SQL Server not able to cope during high traffic?
Pls. help.

This sounds like you may have blocking/deadlocking which rolls back the
reporting services connection. To monitor this check out
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271509/EN-US/. If you do not need to report
on the currently live data, then you would be better creating a copy
periodically and point the reports to that. If you need more up-to-date data
you may want to check out log shipping. With SQL 2005 you could use database
snapshots for this purpose.

We're using SQL Server 2000 with the latest service pack.
I have 2 SQL Servers, Server1 & Server2.
I created a table named Trade in Server1.
Created a view named vwTrade in Server2.
At first, I can see the data from vwTrade. Then I deleted the content of
Trade. Uploaded it with a new set of data using DTS from a foxpro database.
but after that, it is can no longer be seen in vwTrade. If I create another
view named vwTrade2 in Server1, it works fine. But when the view is
recreated in Server2, it just give and empty rowset.

We're using MS SQL 2000 with MS Server 2003. It's a Xeon ( single processor)

We also use 'Reporting Services' to generate web reports.
The problem is , our application will have problem writing ( ie. INSERT
INTO) to the transaction database if the web reporting is printing data from
the same transaction table.
Following errors were captured in our application.
_sp_cursor:_The_cursor_identifier_value_provided_(xxxxxxx)_is_not_valid
where xxxxxx cpuld be some kind of hex codes , for example 'abcdf08'
,'abcdf03' etc.
Could the MS SQL Server not able to cope during high traffic?

reporting services connection. To monitor this check out
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271509/EN-US/. If you do not need to report
on the currently live data, then you would be better creating a copy
periodically and point the reports to that. If you need more up-to-date data
you may want to check out log shipping. With SQL 2005 you could use database
snapshots for this purpose.

We're using SQL Server 2000 with the latest service pack.
I have 2 SQL Servers, Server1 & Server2.
I created a table named Trade in Server1.
Created a view named vwTrade in Server2.
At first, I can see the data from vwTrade. Then I deleted the content of
Trade. Uploaded it with a new set of data using DTS from a foxpro database.
but after that, it is can no longer be seen in vwTrade. If I create another
view named vwTrade2 in Server1, it works fine. But when the view is
recreated in Server2, it just give and empty rowset.

I've got a monstrous beast of a report that has about 15 datasets. I've
figured the only way i can imporve performance is if I could somehow put some
of the parameterized data it pulls into a table that the other data queries
could reuse. (Is it possible to use a temp table? I would think not if the
queries are all in different sprocs). The only way I can see this happening
(from searching the newsgroups) is by making sure that everything is done as
a single transaction in the data source, but I can't find that property
anywhere?! Where do I set that property on the datasource, to do "single
transaction" pulls?

this data source should be executed in a single transaction. So, if all your
datasets use the same data source and you apply a single transaction - you
are almost there.
Although we don't guarantee a certain execution order across datasets of the
same data source (and it may change in future), you can assume at least for
RS2000 that the order of execution is the order of the <DataSet> elements as
defined in the RDL XML. Just try it.

that have default values, if one clicks on the report link in a folder, the
report automatically begins generating and then the data is viewable.
Is there any way to prevent the report from being (automatically) generated
so as to require the user to have to click the standard "View Report" button?

The easiest way to accomplish this is, in cases where report
parameters are used, to not have a default set for at least one of the
parameters. Sorry that I could not be of greater assistance.

"Server has not yet been opened" - XP
I have the "Crystal Reports Viewer Control" in one of my VB 6.0 applications. The report was working great on the Windows 2000 OS, but when I moved the application to Windows XP it now gives the error "Server has not yet been opened". I have made sure that a system DSN has been created for the ODBC connection. I have connected to the DSN using the "Crystal SQL Connectivity Test Utility - SQLCON32". I even tried registering or re-registering many of the crystal dependencies. I have Crystal Reports 8.5 Professional Edition loaded and the report works fine if I open it with the Professional Edition, but not the viewer. I am baffled.

"Right" section of BorderStyle not working in last column
I have a multi-column report (with a header). I'm trying to draw a 1pt
border around the entire header. Not the report or table, just the header.
All of the sections of the border appear correctly except the sections in
the last column to the right. The "right" section of the last column does
not display in any mode.
Has anyone run into this? Is there a workaround?

following is not true:
PageWidth - Left Margin - Right Marging >= (#Columns * ColumnWidth) +
((#Columns -1) * Column Spacing).
Please check how your multi column report is setup.

I've just installed SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services on our development
servers and the "Report Manager Virtual Directory" link is disabled in the
configuration tool. Does anyone know why it is disabled, and how do I enable
it?
Also, the Web Service Identity link displays the following error message
when I click on it:
"There was an error while switching panels. The most likely cause is an
error retrieving WMI properties. The exception details are:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
I've verified that the "Windows Management Instrumentation" service is
running.
Background/current configuration:

"Pages breaks" when I add a page footer to the report
i have a report that calls several subreports. I had everything working fine
until I added a page footer to the main report. All I put in it was a small
textbox that is going to hold page numbers...
Anybody know why its page breaking? I hope it has nothing to do with the
implicit keep together when calling subreports...
Let me know if anybody has any ideas.. I've tried many things an nothing
works..

"OutOfMemory" exception when listing subscriptions in "Report Manager"
Hi There,
We are having a problem in listing subscriptions in Report manager and
getting "OutOfMemory" exception.
Our Application has an event-based subscription management system, and
every-time an event gets fired on the Application-side, it creates an
one-off subscription on the Reporting Services. So overtime the number of
Subscriptions created on the reporting services has grown, and a particular
report has about 8000+ subscriptions to date now.
So when we try to list the subscriptions (for the purpose of management of
subscriptions) in the RS "Report Manager",
for that particular report, System gives an OutOfMemory exception. I think
Report Manager Calls internally
"ListSubscriptions" method (as explained in 840709) and couldn't cope up
with.
And i looked at MSDN Knowledgebase Article:840709, and increased the
"MemoryLimit" setting in RSReportServer.config, but there was no use.
By the way our Server has 2GB of RAM and we use Custom Authentication on
Reporting Services.
Any Suggestions are appreciated.

Manager - remove a number of the relevant entries for the report from the
Subscriptions table.

You could also create an rss script to run at the end of day to remove all
subscriptions for a report, somthing like:

rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
Dim subs As Subscription() = rs.ListSubscriptions(report, "")
If Not subs Is Nothing OrElse subs.Length > 0 Then
For Each subscript As Subscription In subs
rs.DeleteSubscription(subscript.SubscriptionID)
Next
End If
End Sub
Run it using the rs util with:
rs -i scriptname.rss -s http://ServerName/reportserver

"Next Page" is extremely slow - like it's requerying
I have a report with a single dataset, 3-levels of table grouping, and
returns 5 pages. When I preview the report in VStudio, it returns the 5
pages and I can navigate the pages real quickly. The problem is, when I run
it online via the RS front-end and click "Next Page," it takes a good 30
seconds to load the subsequent page or pages. The query itself runs in about
45 seconds, but why is the paging not near instantaneous?

1. Is this report is slow or all the reports are slow?
2. Is your dev environment and production is different then how fast is your
production machine, is the machine slow (database server)?
3. Is Cache enabled/disabled ?
4. Are you doing the dev and online chking on the same machine ?
Probabily you can go to configuration from RS manager screen and check for
the cache options.

reports. I set the caching (every 10 minutes) and it's 99% faster, but I
still don't understand. The report shouldn't refresh itself on every page,
only every time it is run.
