"Timeout expired" error occuring while fetching the data with SQL Server 2000

Hello,
I have one application which is having written inasp.net & plainasp.
I am having one button on asp page,
when i will click on that button, then itwill execute one other asp page.
And after the execution of that second asp page, I redirect it to some
ASPX page with some values.
On the ASPX page, it will connect to the Database, and insert the values.
Thus, sometime, the following error is occuring :
"Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."

Main thing is that i am testing it on my local machine, then also it is giving me this error ...
Insert into statement is also not much complicated :
just I inserted three values in one table.
Is this occuring due to the mixer of asp & aspx??
Plz give me some proper solution.
I want it in efficient manner, because this application will be accessed by number of users at the same time.
Plz help me.

Thanks,
Sandy
Have you been able to pointpint exactly where the bottleneck is occuring? Is the INSERT statement definitely the culprit?
|||Yes...
for insert statement.
But I think this is not creating any matter.
matter is the connection with DB.
This is not occuring everytime.
It's frequancy is 30%.
But for number of users concurrent access, i am not sure is it same or may be increase.
Currently I am using the following connection string :
ConnectionString="Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=myDataBase;User ID=test;Password=test;min pool size=1; max pool size=300"

If there is any issue in this string, plz let me know.
Plz give me the feasible solution ASAP.
Thanks,
Sandy
|||I'd use Performance Monitor to check how well your connection pooling is working for you. See this article:Tuning Up ADO.NET Connection Pooling in ASP.NET Applications, in particular the Monitoring Connection Pooling Behavior section

"Timeout expired"

In a legacy project on the production server, we have a database which
generated the following error when executing a report (written in ASP).
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e31'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired
I then created a SQL dump of this database and exported the tables to Access
MDB file.
Using another test server, I re-created the entire database using the SQL
dump file and imported the data using Access MDB file. Next, I copied the
entire ASP source tree over to this test server.
Lo and behold, when I ran the same report program, it ran successfully!
Could someone tell me why the legacy project running on the production
server caused this timeout error, while the exact same program running on a
test server runs without problem?
Could it be an indexing issue?
Thanks.Ed,

Yes, it could be indexing.
It could also be locks, server load, etc.
Dev servers tend to be less busy than production machines, and what works
well in the sandbox might not be so hot when the server's really up against
it.
If you've not done so, start by having ASP developers set a custom timeout
value to something other than the default.

"PRIMARY" filegroup is full

Hello,
We have an SQL Server app written in ASP that suddenly has an error after 2
years of operation, and we're having trouble locating the problem. Here is
the error message below. The reference in the Knowledgebase for this error
doesn't seem to apply to us. There is plenty of space left on the drive. I
believe we're using SP3 of SQL Server 2000. Can anyone point us in the right
direction? Thanks!!
a.. Error Type:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80040E14)
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not allocate space for
object 'tblTabl31' in database 'Database1' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup
is full.

You say there is plenty of space left on the disk, but is there a max
size limit set on the file(s) contained in the PRIMARY filegroup? Can
you post the results of this (for your particular DB name that is):

The database properties is set to "Unrestricted Growth" but for some reason when the data file gets to 928MB, we get that error message even though there is plenty of free space on the drive. Why would that happen?

There is several GB on the drive, so we thought the database would continue to grow unrestricted until all the space is taken up. Instead we get the error once the CAA_Data.MDF file grows to around 928MB. The only way we can get the ASP application running again is to delete records thus reducing the size of the .MDF file.

There are some funky things that Windows sometimes does in the way of
reserving disk space for virtual files, that could be involved.
Have you tried the simple expedient of rebooting the server?

|||OH yes, we've tried everything. We keep trimming out records to allow the
app to keep running, but over time (usually just a few days), the MDF file
size grows to that magical limit of around 928MB and then we see the error
again. The drive has 17GB of available storage.

Can anyone point us in the right
direction? Thanks!!
a.. Error Type:

You say there is plenty of space left on the disk, but is there a max
size limit set on the file(s) contained in the PRIMARY filegroup? Can
you post the results of this (for your particular DB name that is):

EXEC sp_helpfile;

There are some funky things that Windows sometimes does in the way of
reserving disk space for virtual files, that could be involved.
Have you tried the simple expedient of rebooting the server?

What is 'it' referring to? Enterprise Manager? What happens if you run a
statement like this one:
ALTER DATABASE <db_name>
MODIFY FILE
(NAME = <logical_datafile_name>,
SIZE = 5GB);

think there is more space or allow SQL Server to use more space. Perhaps there's some kind of user

file system other than NTFS ?
I had a client a while ago that hit this same issue they were using FAT32
and were hitting the max file size limit due to the file system maximum
which in there case i think was 4GB if i remember correctly...
Are you using NTFS?
possibly maybe also some form of disk quota for the user account ?
my 2 cents
