is calling and the parameters passed to them. How am I supposed to do this if
the SP contains a parameter called password?

>|||Did you see this post-sp3? I thought that Profiler always hides the text. Perhaps they expanded it
from sp_password to just password? Anyhow, perhaps you can find something in ReadMe for the service
pack (4, I presume)?

Hi All,
We have SQL 2000 ent and Windows 2003 , in a few day , restart many
time the error message in event log is "Error: 17803, Severity: 20, State:

i try open SQL profiler and use performance monitor , but i don't know how
to fix ? in profiler display error log , but i don't know is server problem
or application problem , how to check the problem ? help

Did you restarted your Windows Server after setting up PAE and same for SQL
Server's AWE setting. You need to restart your SQL Server service to take
effect this setting.
Please let me know the values of the counters above. (Don't analyze only for
2-3 mins. Give them at least 1 hour to work and do it in peak-hours)

That looks really bad. I was about to suggest that you should open a
case with Microsoft, but as I searched in Books Online for error
17803, I found something interesting: it's listed in a section for
for error codes listed by Open Data Services. So maybe this is due
to a memory leak in an extended stored procedure?
Do you if there are any extended stored procedures installed on your
system (beside those that ship with SQL Server)? Would it be possible
to keep them from running for a while to see if the problem goes away.

>|||Did you ever get a fix to your problem? We are also running SQL 2000 sp4
with the awe hot fix. We are on windows 2003 sp2. We've had this happen
several times on a production server. We tried killing some spids that we
thought might be causing the problem - but that didn't help. We had to
reboot the server.
We have a case open with microsoft - but so far they are telling us its
beyond SQL Server's scope. SQL Server is using all the memory except for a
little we have set aside (1 gb out of 4 gb) for the OS, etc.
Let me know what you found.

Already done recommendations.
The only thing I can put it down to is an occasional recompile event because
of Statistics on #TempTables (Event SubClass 2-Statistics Changed).
Some data requests will be far larger than others, and it appears that these
are the ones with occasional time-outs.
Does this sound plausible, and should I create Indexes on the #TempTables in
the procedure to get round this ?

But it does stop people seeing the password when they copy a trace file and
load into profiler on a machine where they do have admin rights.

instead of password? If they gave us a editable list of words to block, then
I could see value in this. As it stands, I'm losing my ability to debug code
and all I'm getting is a false sense of security.

do is add /*password*/ to every command and I have no way to know what he is
doing.

I'd be more worried that your SQL Server is accessable at all from foreign
networks. I'd suggest that you tighten up the security of the server for
peace of mind. First add a firewall to the server itself, and only open
the ports that you're actually using. Make sure that the machine is places
so that it uses a private IP address i.e. 192.168.1.1 or something like
that. In an n-tier environment you can lock things up even better by
allowing only the next tier access to the machine, accomplished use of a
DMZ.
Of course, these are only a few ideas to think about I'm sure that the
experts on this newsgroup will be able to suggest about a billion more
security measures, and correct anything that I've said that is completely
wrong.
The point is that you need to lock up access to the production machine so
tight that no one can access it without express permission.

This should be configurable. Though I understand that making it configurable
reduces the effectiveness as a security measure, I still feel that this goes
too far. Basically, I now have to spend significant time
researching/instrumenting code to capture the statements that are being hid
from me. Not happy about that.
Sorry to pile on and beat the dead horse, but this is hurting me right this
second, and I can't really roll back SPs on this server.
