"There is insufficient system memory to run this query"

Hi
Within a day of the sql server service being up we're getting memory errors
returned from SQL Server by the applications that use it and query analyser.
I suspect that one of our sp's or jobs is leaking memory. Does anyone know
how i can test which one it is?
Win2k sp4, SQL Server 2000 sp3
Thanks

"SQLServerAgent service hung on starting"

Since I installed sp4 for sql7 on 3 NT-machines last week, I get this message from Service Control Manager on every reboot of those PC's. After checking in the NT EventViewer, the SQLServerAgent service is really started but about 15-20 seconds after the error message.

EventID 7022
SERVICE CONTROL MANAGER
"SQLServerAgent service hung on starting"

Any idea how to solve this or what causes this?Take a look at your SQL Error log. SQL Server Agent will not be able to start unless the error log shows 'Recovery Complete'.|||Check your odbc administrator -> tracing -> check to see if it is enabled (if it is, stop the tracing).|||Thanks for your replies. Problem solved, the error message was caused because I also disabled the Messenger service (for security reasons). Now I enabled it again & the SQGAgent Service starts on reboot without the error warning. I still wonder why because I don't like leaving the Messenger service running.

"SQL Server does not exist or access denied." after installing XP SP2

Hi!

I just installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 on my pc and I cannot make my asp.net applications access any database any more.

I tried starting the application up from the debugger in vs.net, but I got the same behaviour: I can open the login page but as soon as the application tries to connect to SQLServer I get the "SQL Server does not exist or access denied." error message.

I'm trying to connect with trusted_connection.

Can you guys help me out?Try this Microsoft KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=839269|||Hi TechMickey,

Did you find a solution to the problem? As you remember I have the same problem and it is still not working.|||Hi bws,

no, I just removed sp2 :-(|||So you took the drastic step. I disabled the firewall but without improvement. I will do like you, get rid of the whole sp2-thing. until I see a solution.

"Server does not exist or access is denied"

Hi,
I am trying to connect a web service to an SQL Server 2000 database. SQL
Server is installed and started and the database appears on the Enterprise
MAnager window but it does not appear in the Server Explorer in VS2003.NET
IDE window. It gives the error "Server does not exist or access is denied".
I have re-installed both SQL server and VS but have not being able to solve
this problem.
Can someone help me out ? A prompt reply will be highly appreciated.

Where is the Server Explorer installed? Is it on a different machine or
different network? Based on the error message, it looks like the Server
Explorer is unable to find your SQL Server on the network. A network issue
is more likey to be the case. Can you ping the SQL Server computer from the
Server Explorer box?

"Server Application Unavailable" error on generating PDF reports

Hi,
I'm using ASP.NET with SQL Reporting Service to generate PDF reports.
Most of the time it works well.
But sometimes PDF doesn't come out (esp. if the report is complicated),
with the error message at below.
I use 2 separate servers for Web Server / Reporting Service.
And i suspect a cause is not enough memory?
Thanks,
Azul

"ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE".

In a windows service (.NET) on unplugging network cable it use to loose
connection to oracle database.
Once the network connection was up it was found that the service was unable
to restore its connection to oracle database.
The conclusion that we drew after doing R&D was that, the connection pool
was keeping the bad connection in connection pool on network disconnection
which resulted in the service to use those bad connection and keep throwing
exception “not connected to Oracle”.
On Microsoft site there is a mention of Hot Fix. Where can we get this?

"Lock Pages in Memory" Service Account and SQL Agent

Microsoft recommends using the Lock Pages in Memory privilege for SQl
Server 2005 x64 running on Windows Server 2003 R2 x64.
If granting this privilege allows this user to Lock Pages in Memory,
should SQL Agent be changed to use a different service account that
does not have this privilege? (both SQL and Agent use the same account
currently)
I am thinking that if both SQL Server and SQL Agent are running under
a account with this privilege if they will conflict. Is this the case?Perhaps you are talking about this on BOL
"Although it is not required, we recommend locking pages in memory when
using 64-bit operating systems. For 32-bit operating systems, Lock pages in
memory permission must be granted before AWE is configured for SQL Server."
I do not see why there could be a conflict if both services are using the
same Windows account and this account has the Lock pages in memory permission
granted. It should be Ok.
(BOL note from
Enabling Memory Support for Over 4 GB of Physical Memory
ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v9/MS.SQLSVR.v9.en/udb9/html/34950321-2bfd-4679-8f1b-0a0a440eb443.htm
)
Hope this helps,

amounts of memory and has an option to use AWE but the SQL Agent only works
like any other regular program as far as memory management's concerned
(Virtual Memory). Therefore there's no reason to think both services would
make large AWE allocations at startup.

"Invalid Cursor State" - REPOST

MS-SQL 2000, Service Pack 3a and 4
I have customers that are starting to get "Invalid Cursor State" messages
returned from my Clarion MS-SQL. based application.
It appears to happen when i am issuing a "SELECT SUM(TOTAL) FROM..."
statement, but i can be sure of that. I cant pinpoint when the problem
starts. The solution has been to close the screen im on, which closes
connection to the database.
Where can i start to look for this problem?
TIA

Hi! I'm a .signature *virus*!
Copy me into your ~/.signature to help me spread!|||Yup. SP4 is applied to the machine giving me the most problems. It does
however happen to SP3a machines as well.

"Invalid Cursor Error"

Dear,
Does anyone have a clue when Microsoft is going to release it's next service
pack for SQL-Server? I'm running build 859 at this moment and I can't alter
any table anymore in my enterprise manager. ALTER TABLE is fine as long as
you don't wish to change a column into an identity column. I do not intend
to spend money on this by calling the support line, since I know what the
problem is and spending money on this seems absurd. There is no kb article
for that error as well(although it's is fixed in higher builds than 859) so
there is a big chance they don't want to give me a higher build because of
that (at least that is what appears from other articles). Anyone who can
help me? My development time reduces drastically and reinstalling isn't an
option!
yours sincerly

1) If they can't fix that problem, you dont have to spend money, they'll pay
that back.
2) What's your code? Do you use ADO or something like that?
I can tell you that *no* alter table /alter column statement supports that
natively..
--does *not* work
ALTER TABLE table1 ALTER COLUMN nid ADD IDENTITY (1, 1)
Therefore, I think that the 'cursor error' is raised because some
object/component that you use, did not test this possibility and now it bugs
out...
3) Having the latest ODBC / oledb drivers might help.
Mine is 3.525.1022.0 (odbc32.dll) 2000.85.1022.0(sqloledb.dll) and so on...
4)
this below works...
BEGIN TRANSACTION
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL SERIALIZABLE
SET ARITHABORT ON
SET NUMERIC_ROUNDABORT OFF
SET CONCAT_NULL_YIELDS_NULL ON
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
SET ANSI_PADDING ON
SET ANSI_WARNINGS ON
COMMIT
BEGIN TRANSACTION
CREATE TABLE dbo.Tmp_Table1
(
nID int NOT NULL IDENTITY (1, 1),
adfs char(10) NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]
GO
SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Tmp_Table1 ON
GO
IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM dbo.Table1)
EXEC('INSERT INTO dbo.Tmp_Table1 (nID, adfs)
SELECT nID, adfs FROM dbo.Table1 TABLOCKX')
GO
SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Tmp_Table1 OFF
GO
DROP TABLE dbo.Table1
GO
EXECUTE sp_rename N'dbo.Tmp_Table1', N'Table1', 'OBJECT'
GO
ALTER TABLE dbo.Table1 ADD CONSTRAINT
PK_Table1 PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
nID
) ON [PRIMARY]
GO
COMMIT

Well they were nice and are going to send me the patch. I was a bit
frustrated but if they send me the fix, my problems should be over :). But a
few nightly hours searching can drive you mad every now and then; :-D

Just plain simple Enterprise Manager. I tried to work around it with the web
data administrator but that didn't work either.

Yep that's what I figured out as well. Enterprise Manager generates some
extra statements to support that I've read somewhere.

I will try that as well. It's always usefull to have such workarounds.
Tnx a lot 4 your time.

"...could not load DCOM"

Hello.
I have the same problem.
Version is
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.2039 - Service Pack 4 installed.
Before installation SP4 I had error "Unexpected NULL value returned for
column '[OpenXML].OutSourcedPartCount' from the OLE DB provider
'OpenXML'. This column cannot be NULL." when I didn't specified values
(no XML branches) for columns with default values.
Any ideas?

View this thread: http://www.mcse.ms/message184753.htmlI can add that in event viewer I have such entries after calling my
stored proc :
Source: MSSQLSERVER
"Failed to Initialize COM (CoInitializeEx returned 80010119)"
"Heterogeneous Queries and Remote RPC will be disabled."
